Audition Information
“What should my student expect?”
Students will need to sign up for an audition slot (ASAP, they go quickly!), and plan to arrive no more than 5-10 minutes early (and never late) to fill out an audition form (parent signature required). Audition slots are no more than 5-minutes long. In that time, students will sing a section of a song and read sides from the show. The same day, all auditioners will attend callbacks, beginning approximately 3 hours from the start of auditions (see section below, audition sign-ups). At this time, students will learn a short dance number, and may be asked to sing and/or act out parts of the show alongside other students.
“What should my student prepare for their audition?”
(5-MINUTES)
Sing a section of a song
You will sing a solo (60 seconds max). Please bring your own back track cued up on your phone ready to go. We strongly discourage cast members from auditoning accapella (meaning no music track/karaoke youtube track in the background playing to accompany you while you sing). Only experienced musicians that can stay on pitch and in-tempo without a backing track should consider doing their audition accapella.
Reading of Sides
You will read lines from the actual show - we will select 2 or 3 roles for you to read from, but if you have interest in reading for a particular role - you can come prepared to read those lines. See below for the link to the sides that we will use at auditions for the readings. (Hint, Hint….you should click on these sides and practice some of them BEFORE YOUR AUDITION!)
If you have practiced/memorized a particular side you can TELL US in auditions and read from what you have practiced. If you are serious about a particular few roles, we strongly encourage you to come prepare with having the sides memorized. It is not required, but it helps you stand out in a big way.
“How do you evaluate the initial Audition?”
Great question! Here is the form that we use (we video-record all auditions so that we can look back on them as well).
CALL BACKS for ALL
EVERYONE is invited to callbacks (later the same day as auditions)
EVERYBODY! (ROCK YOUR BODY!) EVERYBODY!
PART 1
Singing specific songs from Beauty and the Beast Jr. with other auditioning students
The Music Director will have you sing for one or more roles using music from the actual show. The Audition Music that we will use will be songs from the show. Below is a link to all of the scores/songs in Beauty and the Beast Jr.
PART 2
Dance Audition
The Choreographer will take you through a basic routine and then you will perform it on your own in a group setting.
PART 3
Paired Readings and Singing
There will be additional readings with various cast member combinations. We will also have actors do some additional improvisation/acting to get a sense of the best possible role for them, as well as do some various pairing for readings and singing.
Offering & Acceptance of Roles
Offering of roles
We will contact families and cast members via email to offer them various roles in the show, and provide some more information about the role.
Accepting/Declining of Roles
Families will be contacted via email with the role(s) their child has been offered. This email has links to formally accept or decline the role. Typically 24 hours to accept/reject their role, at which time we will make additional casting/role calls/decisions and continue until all the roles are filled.

FAQ
What should my student bring to auditions?
Students should bring a parent to sign off on their audition form, water and a warmed up voice and body!
What should my student wear?
Dress to impress, but make sure you are comfortable and ready to move during callbacks. The best clothes are the ones that show us your personality - perhaps something hinting at what character you’re auditioning for! We also recommend close-toed shoes. Sandals should only be worn if auditioning for the Beast and wanting to show off your hairy toes (just kidding - keep those hidden and your sandals at home). Dances shoes, character shoes with a small heel, or your regular tennis shoes are all acceptable.
We can’t make the auditions, what now?
No worries! We are accepting video auditions until December 3rd - this is the Sunday before Callbacks. We encourage you to at least attend callbacks - check under the audition sign-ups above for specific timing!
